Punjab Train accident on 2 June 2024: A freight train accident near Sirhind caused big problems on the railway lines. Three trains were cancelled because of the crash. Fifty-one other trains had to take a different route through Ludhiana Junction. The accident was serious, with eight train coaches coming off the tracks and two engines crashing into each other. This caused delays and confusion for many travellers.

Three trains were cancelled, and 51 others were diverted, affecting over 79 trains passing through Ludhiana Junction.
Trains had to take different routes, including Ludhiana-Dhuri-Jakhal, Sahnewal-Chandigarh-Ambala Cantt, and Rajpura-Dhuri-Ludhiana lines. Some of the well-known trains affected were the Amrapali Express (Amritsar to Katihar), Vande Bharat Express (Amritsar to Delhi and Katra to Delhi), Hirakud SF Express (Amritsar to Vishakhapatnam), and the Nagpur-Amritsar AC SF Express.
The Summer Special Express Kolkata to Amritsar was also delayed and had to be diverted via the Rajpura to Dhuri to Ludhiana route. This required removing a seating-cum-luggage coach and a general coach, causing further delays.
Passengers faced longer travel times and changes in their plans because of these disruptions. The authorities worked to manage the situation and help the affected passengers. This Train incident shows that India needs better safety measures and infrastructure to avoid such accidents in the future.
