21 June International Yoga Day 2024: International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21, which is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The idea for International Yoga Day started on September 27, 2014, when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested it during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He talked about the many benefits of yoga and proposed June 21 as the perfect date for this celebration.
21 June International Yoga Day 2024: Theme
The theme for International Yoga Day 2024 is “Yoga for Women Empowerment.” This theme focuses on how yoga can help women in different ways:
- Improving Women’s Health: Yoga aims to improve women’s physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health. Yoga makes women healthier and more confident. Yoga helps them take on important roles in society.
- Addressing Women’s Health Challenges: Research will look into health problems that affect women, like PCOS/PCOD, menstrual pain, menopause, and reproductive health. Yoga will help in finding ways to better manage these issues.
- Increases Confidence: Yoga helps women become more aware and accepting of themselves. Yoga can increase their confidence and self-esteem, empowering them to achieve their goals.

1 )Bakasana – Pose for a Healthy Brain
- Stand straight with your feet together.
- Place your hands on the ground in front of you, fingers spread out.
- Bend your elbows slightly and place your knees on the backs of your arms.
- Lean your body forward and lift your feet off the ground.
- Balance on your hands and try to straighten your arms as much as you can while keeping your feet lifted.

2) Padahasthasana – For managing gastric problems
- Begin in Samasthithi
- Exhale slowly and bend your upper body forward from your hips, keeping your shoulders and neck relaxed.
- Try to bring your trunk closer to your legs, aiming to touch your knees with your forehead. Only go as far as is comfortable, especially if you’re a beginner.
- Place your palms on either side of your feet on the ground.
- Maintain straight legs and knees throughout the practice. Beginners may bend their knees slightly.
- With practice, gradually straighten your knees more and attempt to touch your chest to your thighs.
- Hold the position for eight to ten breaths, focusing on your breathing and maintaining the stretch.

3 ) Trikonasana – For a healthy heart
- Stand straight on a level surface with your feet comfortably apart.
- Turn your right foot outward, keeping the heels aligned and parallel to each other.
- Take a deep breath in, then bend your torso to the right at the hip.
- Straighten your left arm upward while reaching your right hand down to your ankle, shin, or the floor—wherever feels comfortable.
- Keep your head aligned with your torso or look up toward your left palm if it’s comfortable for your neck.
- Stay in the position, allowing your body to relax with each breath. Repeat the pose on each side about 10 times.

4 )Mandukasana(Frog Pose) – For controlling Diabetes
- Sit in Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose), kneeling with your buttocks resting on your heels.
- Extend your arms forward and clasp your hands together with your thumbs inside, forming a fist.
- Bend your elbows and place your fists over your navel.
- Slowly bend your upper body forward, bringing your chest toward your thighs.
- Keep your neck extended and gaze forward.
- Stay in this position for a few breaths, focusing on stretching your spine and maintaining comfort.

5 ) Halasana – For glowing Skin
- Lie down flat on your back.
- Slowly lift your legs up and over your head until your toes touch the ground behind you.
- Support your lower back with your hands.
- Focus on deep breathing and hold the position.
- Halasana has a lot of benefits like improved digestion, increased metabolism, strengthened abdominal muscles, detoxification of the body, and reduced stress levels.
