The Lok Sabha election 2024 results will be announced on June 4. This election is a contest to gain power between the Congress-led INDIA bloc and the BJP-led NDA alliance. The NDA alliance will be headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is looking for a 3rd straight term in office. In 2019, Modi had gone to Kedarnath for meditating prior to the final phase of the elections. He has the distinction of making trips to religious places before these types of elections. This year, Modi has started meditating at the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu.
PM Narendra Modi is meditating Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari
Here, we would like to mention that Kanyakumari is situated at the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent and it is the point where the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean, and the Arabian Sea converge. The Prime Minister began his meditation in Kanyakumari on Thursday evening, and it will go on for 45 hours. He arrived here by ferry service and commenced his meditation that will continue till June 1. This ferry service is operated by a shipping corporation run by the state government.
The Prime Minister wore a dhoti along with a white shawl and offered his prayers at the Bhagavathi Amman temple before reaching the rock memorial. Later, he started to meditate at the “dhyan mandapam”. This is the location where Swami Vivekananda meditated in 1892 for three days. There is a special hall in the rock where it is believed that Goddess Parvati performed meditation for Lord Shiva. Before starting his meditation, the PM enjoyed the incredible views of the ocean surrounding the memorial.
Why is PM Modi meditating at Kanyakumari?
PM Modi emulates Swami Vivekananda in his personal life. Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission which happens to be a spiritual organization. Interestingly, Modi was a member of this organization. The 125th-anniversary celebrations of the Ramakrishna Mission were held last year, and Modi has stated that Vivekananda wanted India to become a prosperous nation and he must be proud to watch that his motherland is making this vision fulfilled in the long run.
Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana – the 5 southern states of India – have as many as 131 Lok Sabha seats out of a total of 543. Incidentally, there are 39 seats for Tamil Nadu in the Parliament. According to Modi, the BJP would become the single-largest party in this part of India. Thus, it is evident that the choice of Modi to meditate in Kanyakumari underscores the extensive South India push of his party in the election campaign this year.
