Nepali Sherpa climber Kami Rita has reached the top of Mount Everest for the 29th time. This achievement surpasses his own previous record of 28 ascents. Now, Kami Rita holds the record for the most ascents of the world’s tallest peak in its 71-year climbing journey.
Kami Rita summits Mt Everest for the 29th time on 12th May, a Big record
‘Everest man’ Kami Rita Sherpa, a Nepali mountain climber and guide, has made history by becoming the first person to climb Mount Everest a record 29 times. Sherpa surpassed his own previous record of 28 ascents to the world’s highest peak.
Kami began his Spring Season Everest expedition from Kathmandu, leading a team of around 28 climbers. The expedition was organized by Seven Summit Treks with the goal of hiking to the world’s highest peak.
According to officials from the Department of Tourism, Kami reached the summit of Everest at 7:25 AM (NST) on Sunday while guiding an expedition organized by Seven Summit Treks.
At the end of May, Sherpa started his expedition from Kathmandu, accompanying a team of approximately 28 climbers. Kami Rita has been guiding climbers on Mount Everest for many years.
Kami Rita now holds the record for the highest number of ascents on the world’s tallest peak in the 71-year history of Everest climbing.
Kami Rita’s Mt Everest climbing journey
Kami Rita, born and raised in the Sherpa community near Mount Everest, began his career by carrying things as a porter. Later, he started guiding climbers up the mountain.
- He achieved his first successful ascent of Everest in 1994 when he was 24 years old.
- According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Kami Rita has been climbing Everest almost every year since then. Now, he holds the impressive record of 29 ascents.
- In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, climbing from the south side of Everest in Nepal was halted. However, in 2021, when the mountain partially reopened, Kami Rita managed to reach the summit for the 25th time in May.
- In 2023, Kami Rita tied the record for the most ascents with fellow guide Pasang Dawa Sherpa, both having completed 27 climbs. But by May 2023, Kami Rita surpassed this record by achieving his 28th ascent.
