Jawaharlal Nehru Death Anniversary 27 May 2024: How did he die?

On May 27, 1964, India was deeply saddened by the death of its first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who died at the age of 74 in New Delhi. Today is the 60th death anniversary of Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru led the country for 17 years, from 1947 to 1964, winning three parliamentary elections with the Congress party. Nehru played an important role in building India from scratch after it gained independence from British rule in 1947.

Just a few days before he died, Nehru had his regular press meeting on May 22, 1964. When asked about who would succeed him, he jokingly said, “My life is not ending very soon.”

After this press meeting, Nehru spent a few days in Dehra Dun, where his last photo was taken. Nehru came to New Delhi on May 26th. That night, he wrote a letter to Seiiche Hirose in Japan.
