Delhi Baby Care Hospital Fire: At least seven newborn babies were killed after a massive fire broke out at New Born Baby Care Hospital in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar on the night of May 25, 2024. Delhi Baby Care Hospital Fire: what was the reason behind the fire accident
At least 11 newborns were rescued after a big fire broke out at a children’s hospital in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area on Saturday night, officials said. The Delhi Fire Services got a call at 11:32 pm and sent nine fire trucks to the scene.
The Police officials said that they rescued 11 newborn babies from the hospital.
The rescue operation is still taking place. Nobody knows how the building caught the fire, said the DFS Chief.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary said, “All 12 newborn babies were rescued from the hospital with the help of others and moved to East Delhi Advance NICU Hospital in Vivek Vihar for treatment. Firefighters arrived and controlled the fire. Out of these babies, 7 were declared dead on arrival. All seven bodies have been sent to GTB Hospital for postmortem.”
The police said the infants were rescued from the upper floors of the building. Police officials said that the fire broke out in the three-storey building, and the whole structure of the building was under fire.
Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Naveen Kichi, the owner of the New Born Baby Care Hospital, under sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 304A (death by negligence), and 34 (criminal act done by several persons) of the IPC. Delhi Police apprehends the owner of the Baby care centre.
PM Modi prayed for the recovery of the injured babies
The Prime Minister’s Office has announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of each of the seven victims and Rs 50,000 for the families of the injured babies.
Expressing his sorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “The fire tragedy at a hospital in Delhi is heart-rending. My sorrow is with the families in this incredibly difficult time. I hope that everyone recovers at the earliest.”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also expressed his grief, calling the hospital fire “heartbreaking.” He added that the “causes of the incident are being investigated, and whoever is responsible for this negligence will not be spared.”
