Due to the scorching heatwave, the government of Odisha, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Patnaik has decided to commence summer vacations for all schools in the state from April 25th. Because of the rising temperatures, school hours from April 22nd to 24th will be adjusted from 6:30 am to 10:30 am to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Senior scientist Naresh Kumar from IMD Delhi mentioned that East India is currently experiencing a heatwave, and it’s expected to persist for the next 4-5 days in some regions. In West Bengal, a Red alert has been issued due to severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring 6.5 to 4 degrees above normal. The minimum temperatures are also higher than usual. However, there’s a prediction of a slight temperature drop starting tomorrow, followed by an Orange alert for the next 4 days.
Earlier, the India Meteorological Department warned of severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Odisha on April 21 and 22, with another heatwave expected on April 25, 2024.
On April 20, the Met Department reported that temperatures crossed 43 degrees Celsius at 10 locations, with Odisha’s Baripada recording the highest at 45.2 degrees Celsius.
The IMD forecast indicates no significant change in maximum temperatures over the next 24 hours in Odisha. Also, Boudh in Odisha recorded the highest temperature in India at 44.3 degrees Celsius on Friday.
