Since the release of “Jab Harry Met Sejal,” many cinephiles have been wondering when Imtiaz Ali would return to his signature style. Some felt that he had lost his touch in portraying modern-day relationships with flawed characters and nuanced storytelling. So, the big question now is, has he made a comeback with “Amar Singh Chamkila”?

As the title suggests, “Amar Singh Chamkila” tells the story of the folk musician who was Punjab’s top-selling artist of his time. The film begins with a shocking incident in Mehsampur in 1988, then flashes back to show glimpses of Chamkila’s life. Born into a poor family, he worked at a sock factory during his youth. However, music was always his passion, and he eventually joined singer Jatinder Jinda’s team.

Chamkila had a lot of fans who loved his music, but some people didn’t like it. They thought his songs were not good for Punjabi culture. Despite getting warnings and threats, Chamkila and Amarjot didn’t change how they made music. Sadly, this led to a very bad outcome for Chamkila and Amar in the end.

In “Amar Singh Chamkila,” Imtiaz Ali takes a fresh approach. Actors Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra sang live during filming, which is uncommon in movies. Their performances of Chamkila and Amarjot’s songs are fantastic and add extra excitement to the film, even when the story slows down. However, the translations on-screen, although helpful at first, can get a bit repetitive after a while.

Chamkila Movie Actor and Actress

In “Amar Singh Chamkila,” Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra play the lead roles. Casting Diljit was a safe choice, not just because of his linguistic background, but also because he comes from the same state and is likely familiar with Chamkila’s music.

However, Parineeti Chopra’s portrayal of Amarjot gets muted by Diljit’s celebrity status.

Although they sing 15 songs together in the film, Parineeti’s singing doesn’t make much of an impression.

Chamkila Movie Director, Writer, Singer

In “Amar Singh Chamkila,” Imtiaz Ali, AR Rahman, Mohit Chauhan, and Irshad Kamil join once again, and their collaboration is nothing short of magical. The film kicks off with the amazing track “Baaja,” which sets the narrative of the movie.

It beautifully captures the essence of Chamkila’s rebellious spirit and his connection to Punjab. Mohit Chauhan’s raspy voice, combined with awe-inspiring instruments, creates a mesmerizing experience for the audience.
