“I remember visiting Belur Math in 2020 and talking with him. A few weeks ago in Kolkata, I visited the hospital to ask about his health.

About Swami Smaranananda Maharaj

Swami Smaranananda Maharaj was an important leader in the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. He became their President in 2017.

He was born in 1929 in Andami village, Tamil Nadu. After losing his parents, he was raised by his aunt. He finished school in Chennai with good grades in 1946.

Then, he moved to Nasik with his dad and studied commerce there. Later, Smaranananda Maharaj went to Mumbai, where he worked and continued studying.

In 1991, Swami Smaranananda took charge of the Ramakrishna Math in Chennai. Maharaj led the construction of the Sri Ramakrishna Temple there.

His commitment to the Ramakrishna Movement helped him advance in his role.

Eventually, Smaranananda Maharaj became the General Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission.
