Fire in Ujjain Mahakal Mandir

A massive fire accident took place in the sanctum sanctorum of Mahakal temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

13 people were injured in the fire that broke out during Bhasma Aarti. All the injured people were admitted to the district hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, gulal was thrown in the sanctum sanctorum. it was during Holi festival.

Someone threw the colored gulal onto an earthen lamp. They believe that chemicals in the gulal may have started the fire.

Chief priest of Bhasma Aarti, Sanjay Guru is also included among the injured.

The condition of the nine injured is said critical. They have been taken to Indore.

Ujjain Police Commissioner Pradeep Sharma told HT,One injured person said that someone threw gulal from behind during the aarti by priest Sanjeev.

The gulal fell on the lamp. It is suspected that there was a chemical in the gulal that caused the fire.”
