What is New CAA Rule in India (CAA Implemented for Indian Citizenship)

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), was approved by the Indian Parliament on December 11, 2019, to modify the Citizenship Act of 1955.

This change made it easier for certain religious minorities – like Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians – who had to leave Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan due to religious problems or fear before December 2014 to get Indian citizenship.

With the CAA 2019, migrants who arrived in India by December 31, 2014, got a faster track to Indian citizenship.

The time needed to stay in the country before becoming eligible for citizenship, known as the residence requirement, was reduced from eleven years to five.

This helped those who faced religious persecution find a new home in India more quickly.
