Atal Setu inauguration: PM Modi inaugurated the longest sea bridge today
Modi unveiled projects worth over Rs 30,500 crore during his Maharashtra visit. Apart from this, PM Modi also unveiled several development projects during his visit to the financial capital of the country.
The inauguration ceremony of Mumbai’s MTHL Bridge took place on Friday at around 3.30 pm. PM Modi traveled on India’s longest sea bridge being built near the airport from INS Shikra in Colaba to Navi Mumbai.
Atal Setu or MTHL Bridge remain open for passengers on Saturday morning.
Atal Setu Construction Cost
PM Modi inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Bridge built at a cost of about Rs 17,840 crore. Atal Setu is the longest bridge in India and also the longest sea bridge in our country.
Atal Setu Bridge Length
Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) or Atal Setu, is the longest sea bridge in India. This bridge Atal Setu has been named after former Prime Minister and late BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
According to the report of news agency PTI, this 21.8 km long and six-lane bridge has been constructed at a huge cost of Rs 18,000 crore. With this, the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai has reduced to just 20 minutes, which earlier used to take 2 hours.

Atal Setu Mumbai
The bridge starts from Sewri in Mumbai and ends at Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka of Raigad district. This is expected to boost economic growth in Navi Mumbai and other surrounding areas.
With this, the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai has reduced to just 20 minutes, which earlier used to take 2 hours. Officials claim that this will also solve the problem of traffic jam in the area.
The maximum speed limit for four-wheelers on the bridge has been set at 100 kmph by the Mumbai Police. Motorcycles, autorickshaws and tractors will not be allowed to run on it.
Atal Setu Design
A marvel of engineering, its construction used steel equal to the weight of 500 Boeing airplanes and 17 times the weight of the Eiffel Tower 177,903 metric tons of steel and 504,253 metric tons of cement were used in its construction.
The bridge also reduces the distance between Mumbai and Pune Expressways. It will also provide connections to areas such as the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport.
As per ANI report, 70,000 vehicles are expected to use the bridge daily. Construction of the bridge started in 2016. This is the 12th longest sea bridge in the world.
